How To Immigrate To Canada? – Five Best Ways To Move To Canada

Canada has it all – beautiful scenery, clean environment, friendly citizens, high-quality education, low crime rate, and excellent infrastructure. But unfortunately, it also has an ageing population.

In order to keep its population in the prime working-age, between 25 and 54, Canada has a long tradition of immigration and an elaborate system for assessing and admitting new residents to Canada.

From 2022 to 2024, Canada will admit over 1.3 million new immigrants. If you do not know how to immigrate to Canada, do not worry. We are here to help!

We have listed the five best ways of getting permanent residence in Canada, so you understand everything.

Different ways to move to Canada

Express Entry

The Express Entry system of Canada is the most attractive and fastest skilled worker program. This system is only for eligible skilled workers who wish to work and live in Canada. To be eligible for the express entry pool, you must hold relevant qualifications and skills.

Express Entry manages three immigration programs:

  1. Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSWP) for skilled workers with foreign work experience.
  2. Federal Skilled Trades Program (FSTP) for skilled workers qualified in a skilled trade.
  3. Canadian Experience Class (CEC) for skilled workers with Canadian work experience.

In order to immigrate to Canada, you first need to submit an Expression of Interest (EOI) by creating an online express entry profile. Afterwards, using the Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS), your profile will be ranked.

Applicants with the highest score will receive an invitation to apply (ITA) for PR. Finally, you must apply to one of the federal skilled immigration programs with all relevant documentation within 60 days of receiving the ITA profile.

Provincial Nominee Program

If you receive a provincial nomination for your Express Entry profile, you will receive 600 additional points for your CRS score.

The Provincial Nominee Program is another attractive way to move to Canada. Canada has several provinces. All provinces, namely Alberta, Ontario, British Columbia and others, have their unique nominee program.

Each Canadian province or territory decides who comes to their territory as a permanent resident. They have the right to nominate people for Canadian immigration. The nomination is made taking into account the labour market and economic needs of the province.

If you receive a provincial nomination for your Express Entry profile, you will receive 600 additional points for your CRS score. This guarantees you an invitation to apply (ITA) for permanent residency in Canada.

Moreover, your application process will complete within 6 months. On the other hand, if you have a non-express entry system, you will not receive any additional points. Also, it may take 1-2 years to complete the processing of your application.

Family Class Sponsorship

Canada offers family sponsorship. Canada’s family reunification immigration policy allows you to bring your family members to Canada permanently.

Spouse and children under the age of 22 (with some exceptions) are eligible for permanent residence in Canada.

However, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident for family sponsorship. Besides that, you cannot sponsor just anyone. Only your spouse and children under the age of 22 (with some exceptions) are eligible for permanent residence in Canada.

You also cannot sponsor your parents or grandparents for permanent resident status. However, if they wish to come to Canada, they can enter Canada through the Super Visa category.

This program is specifically for parents and grandparents of Canadian citizens and permanent residents. It allows your parents to stay in Canada for two years without renewing their status.

If you sponsor, you must prove your relationship to the person being sponsored. It must be one of three people: Spouse, Common-law Partner or Conjugal Partner. Once you submit your application, IRCC may approve the permanent residency application for your family member.

However, approval may take 12 months from the date of application. After receiving permanent residency, your family member can work in Canada and study and live in Canada.

LMIA Work Visa

Tens of thousands of people immigrate to Canada for work. It is easy to become a permanent resident of Canada if you have Canadian work experience. It may be a lengthy process, but it can lead you to gain permanent residency in Canada.

Before you start working, you must obtain a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA) document from your prospective Canadian employer. The LMIA is an important document. It proves that your employment in Canada is likely to have a neutral or positive impact on the local labour market.

Apply for a temporary work permit with the IRCC once your LMIA is approved. The work permit will allow you to immigrate to Canada temporarily. Once you have sufficient Canadian work experience, apply for a permanent residence permit to immigrate to Canada.

Canadian Investor Immigration

Besides a high standard of living, affordable & high-quality education, Canada is an excellent place to do business, with access to the entire North American market.

The investor immigration program in Canada aims to attract wealthy business people and their funds so they can invest in the Canadian economy. This way, they can contribute to Canada’s overall growth and prosperity.

There are two main investor programs in Canada:

  1. The Federal Investor Program and
  2. The Quebec Program.

Both programs are similar in some respects. In both cases, you must meet the criteria for permanent residency in Canada.

First, you must be an experienced business person and have a personal net worth of at least CAD two million. Second, you must also invest CAD 1.2 million over five years at no interest (zero percent) in one of the two programs.

Remember that your investment is guaranteed by the government. So the money will be returned to you at the end of the investment period.

Bonus: Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program

The Atlantic Immigration Pilot Program lets you settle in the Atlantic provinces of Canada. You can easily obtain permanent residency and the benefits that come with it.

To receive benefits, you must be a skilled worker or graduate of a publicly funded institution in the Atlantic region of Canada.

Aside from the documentation and eligibility requirements, you must meet two important requirements.

First, you must have a job offer from a designated employer in the Atlantic region. Second, you must provide a certificate from an Atlantic province to endorse you for permanent residency.

Please note, you must apply for permanent residency within six months of receiving the endorsement certificate. The immigration office might take six months to review your application.
